Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival - Migration Briefing
Welcome to Tanzania! Transfer to your lodge where our migration expert will brief you on the current location of the herds. We'll discuss the migration cycle and what to expect based on current conditions.
Day 2: Fly to Migration Zone
Board a bush flight to the Serengeti, landing at the airstrip closest to the migration's current position. Game drives begin immediately - within minutes of landing, you could be surrounded by thousands of wildebeest.
Day 3: In the Heart of the Migration
Full day with the migration herds. The scale is impossible to comprehend until you're there - wildebeest stretching to the horizon in every direction. Watch for lion prides following the herds, and listen for the constant grunting chorus of a million animals.
Day 4: River Crossing Watch (Seasonal)
If conditions are right, today we position near river crossing points. The tension is palpable as herds gather on the banks - will they cross? The actual crossing is chaos and drama: crocodiles, churning water, the struggle for survival. Even without a crossing, the anticipation is thrilling.
Day 5: Hot Air Balloon Safari
Rise before dawn for an unforgettable hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti. Float silently over the migration herds as the sun rises - from above, you truly grasp the migration's scale. Land for champagne breakfast in the bush, then continue game driving.
Day 6: Final Migration Day
Last full day following the migration. We'll explore new areas and search for predators we haven't yet seen. This is often when the most memorable sightings happen - a cheetah hunt, a lion pride on a kill, or a massive river crossing.
Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
Morning game drive en route to Ngorongoro. The contrast from the open Serengeti to the forested crater highlands is striking. Your lodge sits on the crater rim with spectacular views into the caldera.
Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into the crater at dawn. After the endless space of the Serengeti, the crater's intimate scale is remarkable - 25,000 animals packed into 260 square kilometers. Search for black rhino (this is one of the best places to see them) and enjoy a picnic lunch by the hippo pool.
Day 9: Departure
Final sunrise over the crater before transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport. You leave Tanzania with memories of one of nature's greatest spectacles - the Great Migration.
