About Ruaha National Park
Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's largest national park at 20,226 km² and arguably its best-kept wildlife secret. Located where eastern and southern African ecosystems overlap, Ruaha supports an extraordinary diversity of species found nowhere else together - from the greater kudu and sable antelope of the south to the Grant's gazelle of the east.
The Great Ruaha River is the park's lifeline, drawing massive herds during the dry season when it becomes one of the last water sources in the region. This concentration creates exceptional predator viewing - Ruaha is home to 10% of the world's lion population, one of East Africa's four cheetah populations, and the third-largest wild dog population globally.
Unlike the northern parks, Ruaha sees few visitors. You might be the only vehicle at a sighting, giving you the Africa that existed before the crowds. The landscape is dramatic - ancient baobabs dot the savannah, rocky outcrops provide lookout points for leopards, and the river creates oases of green in the dry season dust.
